5 star ratingWhat a wonderful birthday I have visited this pub on and off for, well, a long time. This visit was to celebrelate a significant birthday. Meetings and correspondence with Sonny were fantastic. Reassuring and guiding. The choices of finger buffet food were brilliant. The taste and quality of the food produced were amazing. Very little was left! The staff were attentive, friendly and caring. All in all, we are definitely going back. Definitely exploring the menu and definitely letting our friends know if this wonderful, historic and marvellous public house.

5 star ratingPerfect environment We had a table booked for 5 but it looked like we were going to be 1 short. We ordered and as our food arrived, our missing number arrived; the staff didn't blink, took his order and it was on the table before we had finished; With everything freshly prepared it meant they must have made it a priority without any request by us. Being D-Day, the pub had a number of veterans in and they were wonderful. Great atmosphere too as the village was getting ready for the 40s weekend. Landlord came and introduced himself and made us very welcome.
Delicious food.

5 star ratingA great atmosphere and very good food. We visited the Golden Lion with a friend who recommended it.

We were not disappointed. We received a very warm welcome, loved the WW2 pictures around the walls and found the staff to be very friendly.

Although the menu was not extensive, I think that it is often better to offer few choices that are cooked well rather than have a large menu that can sometimes be a disappointment.

My friends both chose a steak and I opted for the duck breast which was served with fresh vegetables and a very tasty gravy.

There were only 4 desserts on offer but again, they were all well received.

We all agreed that the meal was superb (in fact the best I had eaten in a pub for a while) and resolved to return.

5 star ratingGood food, good beer great service Great to visit again after lockdown and sit outside in the sun.
Great beer, great food, great service.
We shared BLT on home made foccacia bread with home made relish and fries. Finger licking good.
We sampled well kept ales Skew and Old Dick beers.
Landlord Greg and all the staff were welcoming and friendly.
Bonus we popped into The Alehouse next door for some bottled beers to take home. They also had Skew and Old Dick take out available.
Thanks for a lovely lunch.

5 star ratinggreat Sunday roast We've been here a few times but not for Sunday lunch. Four of us had a great lunch that couldn't be faulted.
We'd booked and arrived 5 minutes early, just time to order a drink in the bar before going through to the dining room.. (You can eat in the bar and I'm not sure if you can specify- I wasn't asked when I booked).
Nice bread was brought as we ordered four roast beef and a bottle of Carmenere red wine. The meal came quite quickly just time to finish our drinks and it was great.
The beef was very pink (as specified) and it was good meat as very tasty and not tough. Nice Yorkshire pudding, courgettes not over cooked, turnip and roast potatoes.
If anything too much gravy (but able to finish this off as luckily I still had some bread left at the end)!
Not only was the food excellent but the service from the bar and all serving staff was quick and genuinely friendly.
£95 for 2 G&T, 2 soft drinks, good bottle of red and 4 lunches. Glad we didn't have starters and too full for dessert. Happy with the cost for a lovely lunch.

5 star ratingGreat place to stop & eat! I am working away on the south coast again, and have found this pub in the Britstop Book to stay in my motorhome, and to have great meals & drinks as well.

5 star ratingGreat food well executed and delicious We visited with friends and from the moment we walked into the building we felt comfortable and very welcome. Friendly knowledgable waitress was very helpful. Our table was laid and ready for us to be seated. Between us we had a good assortment of food from the menu including an amuse busch, starters, Mains and a cheeseboard each to finish. Cheeseboard has to be ordered at the start of the meal to allow the cheeses to reach the optimum temperature to consume. Everything was extremely well cooked and presented. With all ingredients sourced locally the food is truly delicious. It is not the run of the mill menu and there are a number of pleasant suprises on the menu including seaweed ( not the shredded cabbage that Chinese restaurants pass as seaweed) samphire, locally sourced meat fish and vegetables. The wine menu compliments the food wonderfully. with wines, champagnes and local craft beers amongst the choices. We will certainly be back soon to sample more of the wonderful food on this menu. This is certainly more than common pub grub.

5 star ratingDrove past this for years! Decided to call in for a pint Popped up to Southwick with a friend. Just had a pint, but we were captivated by the friendly atmosphere of the place!
There was a band on - nothing too noisy, just good quality jazz.
Had a long chat with the head chef, Sonny - resulting in a promise to return to sample the delights of his cooking
